Chicago is a sensual musical which combines reality with fantasy. Every aspect of this movie including the cast, the costumes, the directing, the music and the filming, work together very charismatically. The plot of this story is that aspiring singer Roxie Hart (Renee Zellweger) finds herself murdering the man she had an affair with and quickly found herself on murderers row. Where she discovers the successful jazz sing Velma Kelly (Catherine Zeta Jones) whom both find themselves sharing the same lawyer Billy Flyn (Richard Gere) in an attempt to escape from prison and rise as legends.

Renee Zellweger who plays the lead role of this movie (Roxie Hart) manages to grasp the characters insecurities perfectly but very persuasively broke free of these insecurities as she emerged into her fantasy world and as the movie went on. Catherine Zeta-Jones who plays the star studded criminal Jazz singer Velma Kelly boosts with the confidence needed to capture her character. All in all the casting was pure genius and other members of the cast including Queen Latifah acting as the sultry watch over of murderer's row and Richard Gere who plays Billy Flyn the lawyer both Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly find themselves sharing also help to pull this film together.

The costuming captures every characters strengths and weaknesses effectively using a clever use of color and detailing. In the fantasy world of this movie during the musical numbers you will find the costumes fairly skimpy except this is just the costume designer (Colleen Atwood) using the right amount of skin to give it that extra bit of drive.

This was Rob Marshall's first big budget film and all I can say is schnapps for Marshall.
